Elizabeth “Betty” M. Rattray, age 97, died with family members by her side on February 21, 2022.  Betty was born February 7, 1925, in Hartford WI to John and Amanda Frings. Betty spent her youth in Hartford. After graduating high school, she met and married Thomas Rattray on July 8, 1947. Thomas and Betty raised six children. Betty worked many years at Tecumseh Products in Grafton, retiring in 1990. Later she worked part time at Walmart.

Betty loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to make handmade Christmas ornaments each year for loved ones and friends.  Betty was an avid knitter, her specialty, mittens that she donated to the church for distribution to those less fortunate.

Betty loved to read and kept a spiral bound notebook categorizing the books she’d read, not only by title but also with a personal rating. She enjoyed spending time in Door County, the Green Bay Packers and collecting Hummel plates and figurines. Betty also enjoyed playing sheepshead and going to the casino with her sisters and friends. Rumor has it that she made a late-night run with some sleepless friends to the casino in her little VW Golf.

Elizabeth, more commonly known as “Betty,” was also known as “GG”, “Grandma Jelly Bean” and “ Weezy.” By every account, no matter what the name called, all names were repeated lovingly.

Betty is survived by her children: Judy (Bill) Cochran, Gail (Bob) Goehring, David (Pam) Rattray, Marti (Tom) Raess, Meg (Steve) Cerwin and daughter-in- law Kathy Stratton; grandchildren: John (Andrea) Rattray, Daniel (Jamie) Rattray, Christopher Rattray, Elizabeth (Rob) Fernandez, Charles (Sarah) Cochran, Brenda (Scott) Moore, Amy (Sean) Brucks, Benjamin (Samantha) Goehring, Bryan (Brittany) Goehring, Justin Rattray, Katelyn Rattray, Tanner Rattray, Matthew (Erika) Raess, Michael (Jenny) Raess, Emily (Jason) Parchim, Nicholas (Leah) Cerwin, Chelsea (Dustin) Beardslee and Emma (Sam) Jeffery; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her former husband Thomas Rattray, son Jeffrey Rattray, great granddaughter Madisyn Goehring, brothers: Hilary, Carl, and Don Frings; sister Grace Hauser; sisters in law: Mary and Helen Frings as well as brothers in law: Paul Hauser, Marvin Meyer, Gene Reimer, and Joe Berres.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday March 5, 2022, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, N369 Military Road, Sherwood. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until the time of mass.

The family thanks all the wonderful loving staff at Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their care of Betty.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Killian’s School in Hartford.
